As winter officially approaches, the rap game is once again coming up with hot new releases to warm our ears. This week, California’s beloved MC finally releases a new album after six long years, the popular Chicago singer closes a one-year banner with his entire crew, a new album from a beloved Memphis sound and more.
For the first time in six years, Ab-Soul blesses hip-hop heads with a new LP in the form of Herbert. After only appearing in a selection of songs from his last album , year 2016 do what you will, The TDE leader boasted Herbert An emotional glimpse into his past that continues to the present.
Led by four previously released singles, “Hollandaise,” “Moonshooter” featuring Joey Bada$$, “Gang’Nem,” and “Do Better” featuring Zacari, Herbert Find Ab-Soul seamlessly sliding soulful productions through streams and bars that show no signs of slowing down despite his short musical output over the years.
To accompany the album, which is aptly titled Ab-Soul’s debut, HerbertThe cover art features the Top Dawg Entertainment artist as a child playing headphones while surrounded by vinyl records and old school stereo equipment. The artwork serves as a direct representation of the nostalgic Soul theme embodied throughout the LP.
With the California MC taking listeners through a journey of heartbreak and triumph, many fans have declared the 18-song project to be Ab-Soul’s best offering to date.
At the end of the year that included dropping one of the best projects of 2022 in his latest full-length album, 7220, Lil Durk brings the whole crew of the family just for their new mixtape, Honest brother 2.
Used as a continuation of the year 2021 Honest brother, OTF’s fifth label compilation not only sees notable appearances from signees like Doodie Lo, Booka600 and of course Lil Durk himself, but also includes notable guest appearances from the likes of Future, Kodak Black and Icewear Vezzo. Additionally, the 23-track tape also sees a tribute from King Vaughn, who appears on “We Did It” along with OTF Boonie Moe.
Through hard street raps that are straight for the competition, Honest brother 2 Record the feeling of just a family of brotherhood throughout the whole project.
Thirteen months after his tragic death, fans will be blessed with a rich album from Young Dolph, Frank’s paper route. The first full-length project since the Memphis rapper’s death last November, it follows his previous solo release Rich Slave in 2020 and the Key Glock collab LP Dum and Dummer 2.
The 13-track album features guest appearances from Gucci Mane, Key Glock, 2 Chainz, Moochie Grape and Snap Bandz, and includes previously released singles “Hall of Fame,” “Old Ways” and “Get Away.” Production-wise, Dun Deal, Drumma Boy, Bandplay Sosa808 and more proved the score for the project. The album was promoted through billboards and full-page newspaper ads and arrived at Adolph “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr.’s launch event.
